Freedom of all people

Vor Frue Kirke (Our Lady's Church) is the official church of World Outgames 2009 which is taking place this week in Copenhagen. More than 5000 participants from at least 90 countries participate in this cultural and sporting event organised by the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community. 'Freedom of all people' is one of the main messages of the games. I like that.

As can be seen the church has been nicely decorated for the event.

Some of the old buildings in the city have some really lovely stairwells. I really like this one. Note the railing - not many buildings built today have such details.

One of the old gates to Copenhagen. Nørreport means Norther Gate.

Taking the S-train

Not much to say... The S-trains are running quite efficiently for commuters in Copenhagen. Nobody knows what the 'S' stands for though.

Qeqertarsuaq

Just back from Greenland I thought it appropriate with a shot from up there, even tough this blog is about Copenhagen. After all Greenland and Denmark have a long history together.

This photo is from Qeqertarsuaq at Qeqertarsuaq (or Godhavn at Disko Island, but the Danish names are no longer acknowledged, so just forget them again). I think it represents Greenland very well. The coloured wooden houses on the rocks and the surrounding sledge dogs with the racks with dried fish there as weel is something you see all the time.

Greenland is recommendable. Being the north of the Polar Circle with the midnight sun is fantastic.

Flyvergrillen

Flyvergrillen is a small take away right next to the runway of Kastrup Airport. It is an institution fra plane spotters... And they sell some incredibly large (and cheap) ice creams.

Picnic

Dyrehaven is good for picnics and recreation.

Caretaker

I've seen this sign often and always felt that it is a bit provocative. 'Gårdmand' is the same as a caretaker of a back yard. However, this sign clearly indicates that a caretaker can only be a man. And I don't know if that is so politically correct today.

The next ten days I will be travelling to Greenland. Therefore, I have preposted some photos that I have taken over the last couple of weeks. These will appear until I am back.

Coffee at Emmery's

I had a coffee this morning at Emmery's. That's a nice little gourmet bakery that you find several places in Copenhagen.

Tower of the City Hall

The tower of the City Hall is actually quite high. You can take the stairs to the top and enjoy a view of Copenhagen. Most of the city can be seen. Maybe it isn't because the tower is so high, but more because there af very few high rises in the city.

Someone got married today

In the City Hall of Copenhagen people can get married - just like these two. This is from outside the building at Rådhuspladsen (City Hall Square).

Eremitageslottet

I have posted pictures from Dyrehaven before and this is another one. It is Eremitageslottet (The Eremitage Palace) you can see, and originally it was the residence of the king when he went hunting. Well - actually it was only meant to host the king's royal banquets.

Today it is primarily good looking and a great spot for picnics.

Assistens Kirkegaard

Assistens Kirkegaard (Assistens Church Yard) is a nice park on Nørrebro, that is used as combined recreational area and church yard. Lots of famous people are burried here - including Hans Christian Andersen.

Dummy tree

What are these called in English? Dummies? Pacifiers? Suckers...?

This is a tree in Østre Anlæg where they are left when someone feels they don't need them anymore.
